Based on 204 reviewsThe Barra seafood restaurant in Gymea consistently receives praise for its diverse and well-prepared seafood offerings, particularly its fish and chips and grilled seafood options. Customers appreciate the variety of dishes, including gluten-free choices and generous portion sizes, often noting the freshness and flavorful seasoning of the seafood. The availability of multiple salad options and accommodating takeaway service also stand out positively. While the overall quality of the seafood is frequently highlighted, some feedback indicates variability in non-seafood items such as burgers, which have occasionally been described as dry. The friendly and flexible service enhances the dining experience, making The Barra a favored local spot for seafood enthusiasts seeking both dine-in and takeaway options in a casual setting.
One of the few venues with gluten free chips and fish options (not fried but options) the chips were very good, fish was medium well but prefer medium rare (next time I'll ask) and a good salad.
Had dinner here the other night and it was pretty good. We ordered the mixed grill pack, pineapple fritter and a kids fish and chips pack. The mixed grill came with fish, prawn skewer, calamari, chips and a salad. The seafood were cook quite well and the seasoning was flavoursome. The kids pack came with 2 pieces of fried fish, calamari rings and chips. It was quite generous in portion size. Service was good, we sat outside and they brought the food to our table. Overall a decent fish and chips joint.
I love the set of salad fish and chips, they have a variety of salad and fish to choose having a chips for the side. We order battered white fillet and a chrunchy white fillet two set with a Chinese cabbage salad adding chilli sauce and a Eggs mayo coleslaw , very very satisfied!! The portion is too large for us, we asked for a take away, they said not a problem which was really nice , a had a good lunch here today.
Good fish and chips / seafood eatery. Great Calamari Burger!
My hubby and I went to Barra Gymea for a burger. Very disappointed. Burger was so dry. we wont recommend or do that again. Saying that we had the fish cocktails and chips on another occasion this was Delicious. would recommend.
The Barra has $15 deal which have fish (crumbled or battered), chips and a variety of salad to choose from. I had whiting today. The portion is big and filling, the fish is well made, fresh and tasty, salad is great especially you can choose what you like, and the chips are not deep fried so you can still taste the potato original flavour. I think the shop is great for the price you pay. There is also a variety of fish you can choose from, some are more expensive the others but generally sensibly priced. Would recommend!
